RESOURCES KIT

Introduction

The NARRATE Resource Kit provides ideas, exercises and activities that help put into action the theoretical parts of both NARRATE Training for PoAS and NARRATE In-Company Training.

It is divided into two sections:

  1. NARRATE Exercises

  2. NARRATE Skill Cards

Section 1: NARRATE Practices

Section 1 presents a set of exercises and practices related to the teaching units of both NARRATE In-House and In-Company Trainings. Each practice helps professionals train on one or more of these units. Some of them help train on one or more units in the same training; some others help train on one or more units in both trainings.

Practices and exercises in this Section have two aims:

  1. Helping professionals deepen the concepts and ideas described in the framework and in the trainings, become more and more acquainted with the NARRATE mindset, and reflect on how to use this mindset to enrich their work.

  2. Helping clients (PoAS entering the labour market, PoAS already working and companies collaborating with PoAS) train on the operative dimensions that have been identified and reflect whether and how these dimensions may help them reach their aims and fulfil their needs.

For this reason, the practices and exercises are presented in a way that can be understood by non-expert readers.

Section 2: NARRATE Skill Cards

Section 2 describes tools that can be used by professionals in working with PoAS clients, be they PoAS looking for an occupation or PoAS already employed wanting to improve their professional position within the working context.

The NARRATE Skill Cards are a set of cards describing the skills PoAS are required to have to properly work in a working environment. The Skill Cards have been developed based on:

  • NARRATE staff expertise in the world of autism spectrum and in the work with PoAS

  • research in the scientific literature about PoAS and the world of work

  • interviews with professionals that are experts in working with PoAS and/or in career counselling.

Consistent with the NARRATE epistemology, the list of skills described in this section does not represent the “true” and the “real” list of skills required for every PoAS in every working context. It is not a protocol to be blindly followed  but a roadmap professionals can use to start a conversation with PoAS about their skills and strengths.

This section also provides professionals with a set of exercises and practices that can be used with PoAS to help them learn or enhance the skills described in the Skill Cards. Also, some exercises in Section 1, where specified, can be used for training on the Skill Cards.
